⛔️ACTION: Deplorable Conditions Meet >90 Degree Heat Emergency
Migrants & Citizens in 29+ Detainment Centers in 13 States Face LEVEL 4 Heat Threat in June
The people we see grabbed by masked men from their jobs at Home Depot, on construction sites, at restaurants, walking down the street, are facing deplorable conditions at detention facilities. These incidents are documented, and there are sources at the bottom of this post.
Deaths, assaults, and suicides have been reported at many facilities. Once those hit the news, the facilities closed communication lines and won’t let lawmakers with oversight authority in to assess conditions. Those who glimpsed facilities in Texas, Louisiana, Florida and Georgia reported:
Overcrowding
Group cells with open toilets
No running water
No soap
Rationing of food and water
No air conditioning
No standard sanitation
Plumbing problems
Illness from overcrowding
And those are just some of what we know about.
Now a Heat Emergency has been declared for 13 states starting June 21, and temperatures will soar into the 90 at these facilities.
I gathered information for those who want to try to spread the word about the peril our neighbors are in.
Well, many of you have been advocating against the “Big 🤮 Bill,” we can do more than one thing at a time, because that’s how we roll.
Help spread the word.
CALL TO ACTION
I decided to put these materials together for advocates to reach out to lawmakers in those areas. Feel free to use or change or send or ANYTHING REALLY, because experience tells us it will be a deadly week in these conditions — for people who have yet to receive due process, and for the US citizens swept up in the inhumane madness of this administration.
I am sure some of the detainees may be criminals who should be deported. The problem is, due process. The problem is Trump blocking the Bipartisan bill under Biden that offered a humane and robust border program. That’s not what Maga wants.
But we’ve seen people taken off their jobs. And we know what the Constitution guarantees to all RESIDING IN the United States the right to due process, and the detention centers Republicans have set up should not facilitate or create a human rights emergency.
So here you go. Join me in trying to help the immigrants, refugees, and neighbors who need our help.
It’s going to be a hot summer. But we know for sure heat will surpass 90 degrees in facilities in affected states: Florida, Georgia, Texas, New Jersey, New York, Virginia, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, Rhode Island, Michigan, Ohio, Arizona (indirectly through connected processing centers), Illinois (due to regional ICE routing).
If you have other resources, please leave a comment so others can access them.

📍 USE THESE ZIP CODES
To call House Reps for towns with ICE detention centers under extreme heat (June 20–30):
👇 Copy one ZIP and paste it into: commoncause.org/find-your-representative
📞 Then call and say:
“I’m calling because your district includes a federal ICE detention facility in a Level 4 heat zone. People are at risk. I’m asking you to demand emergency inspections, cooling systems, and medical access now.”
FACILITY OWNERSHIP AND DOCUMENTED INCIDENTS
I don’t think calling the facilities will help.
And I wouldn’t want to tie up the phone for families who are trying to find loved ones.
But our reps need to push for relief at these centers.

Email to Georgia Legislators on Heat Crisis in ICE Detention Centers
Email to Senators Ossoff and Warnock
Dear Senator [Ossoff/Warnock],
I’m writing as a deeply concerned Georgia resident regarding the Level 4 heat wave currently threatening the lives of migrants detained in ICE facilities across the South—including right here in Georgia.
Detention centers like Stewart Detention Center in Lumpkin have been flagged repeatedly for unsafe, unsanitary conditions. Recent inspections and media reports confirm food and water rationing, inadequate air conditioning, and recurring neglect in these for-profit facilities. With heat indices now in the triple digits, I fear we are on the brink of preventable tragedy.
These are human beings—many of whom have not been afforded due process. Women, children, and entire families are being held in conditions that violate their dignity, their rights, and basic standards of public health and safety.
I urgently ask you to:
1. Demand immediate federal oversight and emergency cooling measures in ICE detention facilities in Georgia.
2. Push for public release of current DHS/OIG inspections or incident reports regarding Stewart and any other ICE facilities in Georgia.
3. Call for independent humanitarian access—including clergy, legal observers, and medical professionals—to assess and assist those held under these extreme conditions.
4. Investigate CoreCivic and GEO Group’s compliance with federal detention standards during this crisis.
5. Champion legislation or emergency orders that ensure no one—regardless of immigration status—suffers or dies from extreme heat while in U.S. custody.
I’ve included several key oversight reports and documentation of Georgia facility conditions below. I hope your office will take swift action to demand transparency, accountability, and above all—basic humanity.
Sincerely,
